Portable Offices Embarks on a Countrywide Staff Training Programme

Portable Offices has pledged to achieve the pinnacle of excellence in both product and service and to establish long-lasting relationships with customers by exceeding their expectations and gaining their trust through exceptional performance by every member of the team.

To achieve that goal, the management recognises that it has to invest in its people and inspire the respective teams to surprise and surpass themselves.

With this in mind, the company has enlisted the support of Uspire to implement a countrywide workplace training programme that includes every single member of staff across all five depots.

Workplace training is an excellent opportunity to expand both the knowledge base and skills of all employees.

An ongoing workplace training programme identifies and addresses any weaknesses, helping employees to be more all-rounded and better skilled at every aspect of their job. In turn, this benefits the company as projects will be completed faster and employees will need less assistance on tasks where previously their skills may have been weak.

Training also gives employees more confidence in themselves as they are better equipped to do their job, which can often provide the extra push that many employees need in order to perform to the best of their abilities.

Portable Offices’ Special Projects Manager, Barney Scott, commented: “Our aim is to create a cohesive unit with everyone moving in the same direction, at the same pace. We want to upskill our people and establish a succession plan that will benefit everyone with opportunities for promotion for everyone.

“The practical implementation of the training encompasses the development of customer communication skills right through to building the right team spirit from sales and accounts through to the yard staff.

“I have been delighted by the response to the training and feel it is increasing staff understanding and motivation.”

When it comes to consistency, having a structured training and development programme is a definite way to help ensure this. Access to regular training ensures that all employees have a consistent knowledge of tasks and procedures, something which is particularly important when it comes to basic company policies and procedures.

Portable Offices has always embraced progression and training as is evidenced by the company’s commitment to site safety:
All key supervisory staff and management successfully achieved their Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) and Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) qualifications. This means that each of the company’s five depots now holds this widely respected accreditation.

Portable Offices has already benefitted from Safe contractor accreditation for a number of years and views its latest safety training through the SMSTS as a vital part of its on-going commitment to health and safety on site.

Health and safety features prominently in the process and with Portable Offices achievement of Contractors Health & Safety Assessment Scheme or CHAS in 2010 combined with international standards ISO 14001 9001 it is further confirmation of a high level of competency.
