Dan Maddox Celebrates 20 Years of Excellence

Celebrating 20 years with Portable Offices, Dan Maddox’s journey is one of dedication, skill, and growth. Starting as a yard operative at our Telford depot, Dan’s curiosity and talent for electrics led him to become one of our most skilled electricians, serving clients nationwide and making a significant impact on our team and projects.

From Yard Operative to Electrician

Dan joined Portable Offices two decades ago with a strong work ethic and an open mind. Initially considering a career in policing, Dan decided to pursue a more practical path after observing the satisfaction his father, a carpenter and joiner, derived from his work. Taking on a yard operative role opened doors to new opportunities, especially when he developed a keen interest in electrics. Portable Offices supported his ambition, providing him with the opportunity to train as an apprentice electrician while working.

Reflecting on his early days, Dan shared, “I quickly became hooked on the intricacies of electrics and was delighted when Portable Offices supported my interest and allowed me to study whilst working.” This commitment to his growth enabled Dan to earn his qualifications and transition into a project electrician role, where he began to apply his skills across Portable Offices’ national network.

A Role of Variety and Challenge

Dan’s role has evolved significantly, now encompassing complex projects across the UK with a focus on planning and development. Reporting to Andrew Noble on special projects, he tackles everything from large-scale contracts to supporting depot teams with electrical expertise.

He values the diversity of his work, stating, “Every contract is different, and it is the variety of challenges that keep the job so interesting.” As regulations have grown more complex over the years, Dan’s expertise has only deepened, making him a trusted figure in ensuring our modular building installations meet the highest standards.

Balancing Work with Family Life

Based in Staffordshire, Dan has a young family who share his love for football. When he’s not on the road, he can often be found coaching his two young boys or cheering on Aston Villa. The travel required by his job can be demanding, especially with a family, but Dan remains committed to seeing each contract through to completion, balancing his professional responsibilities with family time.

Looking to the Future: A Greener Path

Looking ahead, Dan envisions a future where Portable Offices leads the way in sustainable electrical solutions. He has already achieved qualifications in solar power and sees the integration of greener technologies as essential. “I think there will be ‘greener’ challenges ahead, and it’s important that we lead the way into a more sustainable future. Solar power will play a more important role, and we’re already gearing ourselves up for it,” he shared.

Dan aims to transition into more of a designer-developer role, with a focus on nurturing the next generation of electricians within the team. Portable Offices’ commitment to innovation and sustainable growth aligns perfectly with his goals, and he appreciates the company’s continued support. “Portable Offices’ management is incredibly supportive. They have helped me a lot and given me every opportunity to develop,” he remarked.

A Key Asset for Portable Offices

Dan’s journey from yard operative to expert project electrician is a testament to his dedication and the company’s support of personal and professional growth. His commitment to quality, sustainability, and innovation makes him an invaluable member of the Portable Offices team.
