Ysgol Bryn Elian is an 11–18 bilingual co-educational Comprehensive School on Windsor Drive in Old Colwyn. It serves the state secondary education sector in the Colwyn Bay area and during the summer was the focus of an expansion with portable building brought in to provide addition pupil places and to allow for further IT suites within the school buildings.
Business manager at the school, Brian Crossland handled logistics and sourced portable buildings supplier, Portable Offices to provide a new state-of-the-art five bay double classroom that was ideally suited to purpose.
Brian commented: “Our main driver for the portable buildings was the need to accommodate an additional 60 pupils but in tandem with that was requirement for additional space for staff and IT suites within the school.
“One of our key requirements was that the portable buildings should be new units and we also wanted to work with a company that would provide a turnkey service. Portable Offices ticked all the boxes; Paula Smith was our main point of contact and she looked after us at every step of the process.
“The entire process was seamless; they understood our needs and worked with us to bring the contract to fruition. I couldn’t believe how fast the installation was and how smooth and efficient.
“One of the surprising aspects was that when we briefed our teaching staff, many expressed concerns about portable buildings and were a little negative about the accommodation. However, when the buildings arrived and they saw how up-to-date, warm, comfortable, bright and spacious the buildings were their opinions soon changed. I think many had outdated perceptions of portable buildings which have definitely now been changed.
“We are very happy with the outcome and found it a most positive experience.”
