Men’s Sheds Association – ultimate community space for local men to connect

Men’s Sheds Association, has just opened a new workshop at Keighley in Yorkshire and has used two portable units to create the ultimate community space for local men to connect, converse and create. The activities are often similar to those of garden sheds, but for groups of men to enjoy together. They help reduce loneliness and isolation, but they’re also fun learning places.

Members of Keighley Lions Club, started a Men’s Shed in a space at Cliffe Castle in Keighley West Yorkshire. Allan Clarke, Ambassador for Men’s Sheds was tasked with finding two containers suitable for the purpose.

An internet search identified Portable Offices and he visited the portable offices depot in Morley, Leeds. He was delighted to be able to see first-hand two units at the depot that had already been converted into a workshop.

He said: “It was ideal seeing how the spaces would work and accommodate our needs. I was able to discuss our specific lighting and electrical requirements and view how it could all come together.

“Daisy at Portable Offices was really helpful and together we put the plan together. I was able to secure the funding and with a four week lead time, our workshop was soon on site.

“We ordered refurbished units, but I have to say that they look brand new – they are warm, spacious and everything went so smoothly.

“The guys from Portable Offices Hire on site were so professional – it was an easy installation exercise, all told.

“We are looking at putting a further two on top of these in the future and possibly rolling out the same concept to a wider area.
“I am over the moon with the end result.”
