National Sales Manager, Ian Smith is celebrating 10 years service with Portable Offices.
He joined the company as North West Sales Manager with over 13 year’s experience in the portable buildings sector and previously worked for a supplier to Portable Offices.
Some three years after joining, Ian was promoted to his current position and has seen the company go on to achieve record growth levels over recent years with personal involvement in hundreds of contract installations.
We ask Ian about some of his most memorable contract moments:
“A few years ago I remember being stranded out on the River Mersey while we established a new waiting room for the Birkenhead Ferry on a specially constructed pontoon. We all wore life jackets and were surrounded by pilot boats, but each time the Birkenhead Ferry came through we had to de-rig and wait until it had gone by before work could continue. It was quite a surreal experience.”
Ian confesses to being a portable buildings ‘anorak’ and is as committed now to the company and the job as her ever was. He said: “The past 10 years have just flown by. I love my job and every day is different. No contract is ever the same and it’s the variety that keeps me interested.”
His favourite contract: Condover College.
Reason: “The new accommodation made such a difference to the lives of the students, many of whom had learning difficulties or were coping with physical challenges. It really was a rewarding job and great to see it come to fruition.”
His favourite product: The new 2020 unit.
Reason: “It provides truly stylish contemporary accommodation and encapsulates the best aspects of portable buildings, providing a semi-permanent spacious feel.”
Ian is looking forward to another equally interesting and fulfilling decade with the company.
