Chris Hanson – Marathon Man

In true Portable Offices style, Chris Hanson, Manager of the Leeds distribution operation, completed his first half marathon last weekend at Chester.

The event saw a record number of entrants, with 7,000 competing in the main race and 500 in the family fun run but with temperatures soaring to around 23C it was an ordeal keeping the pace to the finish. In fact, 100 pulled out of the race as a result and a couple were taken to hospital suffering with heat exhaustion.

Determined to achieve his goal, Chris carried on regardless and completed the 13.1 mile race in two hours, nine minutes and 19 seconds.

Chris commented: “I am delighted to have achieved my goal. What started out as a bit of banter between mates at the pub encouraging each other to lose weight and get fitter, culminated, six months later, in a real challenge against other runners and, on this occasion, battling against sweltering conditions.”

Chris aims to continue with his running and will be on the lookout for more marathons to race in.

As it states in the wise phrase by an unknown author:

“Runners just do it – they run for the finish line even if someone else has reached it first.”
