Portable Offices sponsors rowing challenge

Portable Offices is delighted to announce its sponsorship of the Rowing4Research challenge to row across the Atlantic later this year.
On the 1st December this year, Alex Bland and Harry Martin-Dreyer from Shropshire will set off from the island of La Gomera in the Canary Islands with the intention of rowing almost 3,000 miles, in a specially designed ocean rowing boat to Barbados.

The challenge is expected to take 60 days to complete, and will involve the team of two in rowing alternately two hours on,  two hours off, 24 hours a day without stopping.

Aside from being a massive personal challenge, the primary objective of the row is to raise in excess of £100,000 for two charities, Cure Leukaemia and JDRF (the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). The team has a personal interest in the work of both charities who proved an invaluable support to Harry’s mother, Alexandra who sadly died in March 2013 following a two decade long battle with Leukaemia; and to Alex’s brother Ross, who developed type 1 diabetes at a young age.

Portable Offices recognises the depth of physical and mental strength that the team require in order to complete this incredible challenge and are keen to use this as an example to their entire workforce who, although not necessarily in such testing conditions as the Atlantic waters, do nevertheless need to tap into their own abilities to solve problems connected with the many logistical issues involved in establishing portable and modular building contracts.

Managing Director, Adrian Witty, comments: “It is an amazing challenge for two young men to undertake.  I have the deepest respect for their initiative, their motives and for the venture in general. We wish them every success and are proud to be a part of this great adventure.”
