Flagship Redevelopment in Foston, Derbyshire…

Portable Offices’ distribution centre at Foston – one of the UK’s leading providers of portable and relocatable buildings – has just seen major investment and development of its offices and operations facilities, moving into a brand new seven-acre site complete with almost 28,000 sq. metres with one of the largest selections of available portable and relocatable buildings in the UK today.

A presence for Portable Offices was first established in Foston over 18 years ago and is one of five strategic locations around the UK, thanks to the new flagship development, is now able to showcase the latest range of modular and portable buildings fully.

With customers in mind, the welcome our visitors receive upon arrival focuses on convenience and design aesthetics with ample car parking directly in front of the office with the provision of accessible spaces plus electric charging stations with an eye on the future. All customer parking areas are made with permeable tarmac and softened with landscaping, further adding to the office’s kerb appeal.

The front façade of the modular building complex features a mixture of floor-to-ceiling and half-length windows, all double-glazed to provide a light, contemporary space for our team and customers. Directly opposite the main office entrance is a luxuriously appointed meeting room featuring the latest cutting-edge technology lighting and video conferencing.

The new building has a contemporary design throughout and a high-spec interior with mood lighting and has been created with a flowing, luxurious atmosphere synonymous with modern stress-reducing working environments and showcases what can be achieved using modular and portable buildings.

There is a seamless link into the open plan office and discreet lighting and flooring designs coupled with selected artwork continuing the interior theme into new areas. The office is complete with natural and mechanical ventilation to facilitate air change for the most natural atmosphere and energy-efficient lighting, which is programmed in harmony with external natural light levels working in conjunction throughout the overall working spaces.

A staff and customer kitchen and breakout area have been designed and created adjacent to the office space in bright modern colours and styles to complete the environment’s functionality.

Acoustic ceiling baffles and sound-reducing wall panels ensure noise levels achieve a modern, efficient and practical standard. Whilst other notable features and finishing touches include radiant heating panels in the toilet and changing areas, as well as Villeroy and Boch ceramics.

Our Operations & Production teams also have their own facilities – locker rooms, showers and toilets and an extensive range of workshops which benefit our external staff and contractors alike.

Sustainability is key within the development, exampled by the state-of-the-art electric charging points for vehicles and the latest innovations in solar panels running the entire span of the office roof, providing significant self-generating power when combined with an internal battery backup storage facility.

During the site development, there were a number of factors that needed careful consideration. These include an in-depth traffic plan to ensure movement around the site is safe and planned, a comprehensive drainage plan and levelling of surfaces to prevent flooding and stagnant water building, an evaluation of existing and proposed surfaces, effective site security, planning sensitivities for neighbours and environmental factors which included the maintenance and continuation of on-site bat boxes and screw piles to protect a magnificent oak tree which benefits from a ‘tree preservation order’ at the rear of the site.

Adrian Witty, Managing Director of Portable Offices, said: “Not only have we demonstrated the benefits and simplicity of a modular building, but more importantly, it illustrates how spacious and comfortable portable buildings are and how they can incorporate the latest cutting-edge technology to provide the most healthy and enjoyable elements achievable in a modern environment.

“The growing ability to recycle a comprehensive range of portable and modular buildings seriously enhances our whole business carbon footprint and, when combined with new products both for hire and sale, provides one of the largest selections of products available in the market today.”
