SANDYCROFT

Meet Ian Smith…

Visitors to Portable Offices’ Sandycroft office are likely to meet one of the company’s longest-standing members of the team – Ian Smith, National Hire & Sales Manager.

Ian joined the company over 18 years ago, although his ‘cabin journey’ began in earnest 32 years ago at a Liverpool-based cabin provider.

Over the years, Ian has seen the company grow exponentially and his enthusiasm and passion for the business have kept pace.

Ian is well-known for his unrivalled commitment and technical knowledge for his clients   – keeping them regularly updated at every stage of the contract and working tirelessly to bring their contract aspirations to fruition.

Ian elaborates: “This industry has become a way of life for me. No two days are the same.

“The company has grown and changed massively since I joined almost two decades ago. At that time, I had to get heavily involved in everything from the site surveys to the design and entire workings of each contract. Now, we are involved in many more large, complicated contracts and have a fantastic, dedicated team, which makes life a lot easier on-site and enables clients to benefit from a seamless process.

“Having said that, we are all very ‘hands on’ and as a family business, there is an undeniable thread of warmth and caring which runs through everything we do.”

Ian has worked on numerous contracts from small to large. Still, his most memorable is Condover College, where an 11-bay modular building was established to provide a sensory room and soft play area for students with special needs.

“We went the extra mile to ensure that everything was exceptional for these youngsters. I still remember the joy on their faces when they experienced the new facilities. It was an incredible moment for our team and one I won’t forget.”

Away from work, Ian enjoys walking his two Lhasa Apso dogs – Daisy and Darcy. He spends a great deal of his leisure time socialising with family and friends and following his local St Helens Rugby League Club.
