Leeds Responds to School Installation Challenge

Education, Innovation and Team Growth…

It’s been a busy and exciting summer at Portable Offices’ Leeds Depot, with a variety of projects spanning education, business, and even a touch of Christmas magic. The team has successfully navigated a packed schedule, delivering high-quality solutions across sectors, while continuing to expand and strengthen their workforce.

Meeting Challenges in the Education Sector

The education sector has been at the heart of Leeds Depot’s operations this summer, with classrooms delivered to schools across Leeds, Bradford, and a particularly challenging project at Skipton Girls’ High School.

The highlight of the season was the installation of a stunning, purpose-built modular classroom at the high school, dedicated to the memory of a former pupil. This bespoke building replaced a previously redundant classroom, ensuring the school has state-of-the-art facilities to serve future generations.

Depot Manager, Becky Scholefield, explained the complexities of the project: “It was a tricky installation, requiring two cranes and detailed logistics. I believe a number of our competitors had walked away from the contract, but our competent team pulled everything together, and the project was completed in plenty of time for the start of the school term.”

Business Contracts Across the Region

Beyond the education sector, the Leeds Depot team has been busy fulfilling a range of unique business contracts. These included a bespoke clad meeting room for a company in Otley, a new office building for a Loom furniture producer in Cleckheaton, and even a changing room for Santa and his elves at Mother Shipton’s Cave in Knaresborough for the upcoming Christmas season.

Supporting Community and Culture

The team also played a part in this year’s 10th anniversary of the Bradford Literature Festival, providing office accommodation units situated in the main square for staff and volunteers. Their support helped the festival run smoothly and efficiently, adding to its continued success.

Further afield, Leeds Depot provided sleeper units for contractors working on the refurbishment of the historic Floors Castle in Scotland. These units ensured that contractors were well-accommodated while they carried out major renovations on one of the country’s most stunning heritage sites.

Team Growth and New Additions

Leeds Depot has also been building up its internal strength with the addition of new talent. This summer, the team welcomed multi-skilled yard operative Nick Flegg, who brings a wealth of experience from a competitor company. Nick has already made an immediate impact, getting involved in full refits and call-outs, and quickly proving to be a valuable asset to the team.

Becky Scholefield commented on Nick’s arrival: “We have been building up our team and were lucky to recruit Nick, who has fitted in straight away and made an immediate contribution. His previous experience has allowed him to hit the ground running, and we’re thrilled to have him on board.”

Looking Ahead

As summer comes to a close, the Leeds Depot team is looking forward to more exciting projects and opportunities. With their continued success in the education sector and growing demand from businesses across the region, the team is well-positioned for a productive autumn.
