Addressing Urgent Needs: Supporting Schools Amidst the RAAC Crisis

In the midst of the RAAC crisis, schools turned to us for solutions, and we answered the call. From providing temporary classroom accommodations to assisting with asbestos removal issues, our team at Luton Depot has been at the forefront of supporting educational institutions during challenging times.

Shining Bright: The Beacon Multi Academy Trust Project

One of our proudest achievements has been the creation of a new nursery building at the Beacon Multi Academy Trust in Ilford. This project not only allowed us to showcase the latest advancements in building methods but also provided a space for the future generation to thrive. With a focus on innovation and sustainability, the Busy Beacons Nursery boasts top-of-the-line features including a traditional brick façade, HVAC ventilation, and a full BB93 acoustic system—all designed to create a nurturing environment for young learners.

Empowering Education: Partnering with Prae Wood Primary School

Our commitment to education extends beyond crisis response. We recently completed a timber-clad two-bay building for Prae Wood Primary School in St Albans. This project underscores our dedication to providing quality learning environments for students of all ages.

Lights, Camera, Action: Supporting the Entertainment Industry

Beyond the classroom, Luton Depot plays a vital role in supporting the entertainment industry. From providing production suites to welfare facilities for popular TV series and box office movies, we’re proud to contribute to the magic of film and television.

Driving Business Forward: Partnering with Property Developers and Car Hire Operators

In addition to our educational and entertainment ventures, we’re also dedicated to supporting the business sector. Whether it’s providing marketing suites for property developers or standalone suites for car hire operators, we’re committed to helping businesses thrive.

Business News | Derby Depot | February 2024

As we dive into the happenings of February 2024, it’s clear that our team has been busy making impactful strides in various projects, from supporting local communities to partnering with esteemed organisations like Stoke City Football Club.

Derby Depot Scores with Stoke City Football Club

We kicked off the month on a high note by delivering a welfare cabin to Stoke City Football Club’s Training Ground and Academy at Clayton Wood, just a couple of miles away from the bet365 Stadium. This bespoke cabin, equipped with essential amenities including a canteen, kitchen, and toilets, marks another successful partnership for Derby Depot. It’s just one example of how we’re continuously expanding our reach and providing top-notch solutions to our clients.

Rising to the Occasion: Supporting CT4N

In times of crisis, our team at Derby Depot doesn’t hesitate to spring into action. When CT4N (Community Transport 4 Nottingham) faced flood damage at their River Trent side location, we were there to offer a swift solution. By providing self-contained welfare units raised off the ground, we ensured that CT4N could continue their vital operations without interruption. It’s moments like these that underscore our commitment to supporting our community, especially those most in need.

Empowering Education: From Disaster Recovery to Classroom Solutions

Disasters can strike unexpectedly, but our dedication to recovery and resilience remains unwavering. Whether it’s providing temporary classrooms to schools affected by crises like the RAAC incident or stepping in to assist institutions like SS Simon & Jude CE Primary School in Bolton after a devastating fire, we stand ready to lend our expertise and resources. Together with partners like Sandycroft, we’re rebuilding and reinforcing educational facilities for future generations.

Welcoming Pauline Brady: Enhancing Operations

In October, we welcomed a new addition to our team: Operations Coordinator, Pauline Brady. Since joining us, Pauline has seamlessly integrated into our operations, serving as a crucial link between sales, hire, and overall project management. Her dedication to excellence ensures that we consistently deliver on our promises, meeting and exceeding the expectations of our clients.

In Tune with Nature: A Flutter of Activity

Amidst our bustling office environment, we’re taking a moment to connect with nature. Jenny and Dal have created a welcoming haven for birds in our recreational area, complete with feed stations and bird feeders. It’s a joy to observe the diverse array of British birds, from Woodpeckers to Bullfinches, as they visit our little sanctuary. This small initiative reminds us of the importance of preserving our natural surroundings and finding solace in the beauty of the outdoors.

As we reflect on the past month’s achievements and look ahead to the spring and summer seasons, one thing remains clear: the dedication and passion of the Portable Offices team will be constant as we focus on helping our customers find the best solutions throughout 2024.

Stay tuned for more updates and exciting developments as we continue to make a positive impact in our communities by providing an honest, trusted service and always aiming to exceed customer expectations.

Bristol Boxes Clever!

During its busy winter period, Bristol depot has provided a lifeline to many local businesses but one of the most rewarding was the provision of two linked 32 x 10 portable buildings to young people’s charity, Empire Fighting Chance.

Empire Fighting Chance uses a combination of non-contact boxing and intensive personal support to challenge and inspire young people aged 8 to 25 to realise their unique potential.

Justin Hardwell, Depot Operations Manager, said: “It was a challenging contract with tight site access but was a successful installation that provided a new lease of life to the gym and office areas of the charity.”

Bristol has worked with many high profile clients over the last few months including an internationally renowned design and manufacturing organisation who required a two bay canteen space for their new site together with a toilet block for inside their warehouse and also providing changing rooms for a well-know Cornwall based food producer which were needed for staff.

There has also been the usual stream of sales and marketing suites for major house builders throughout the region. Of special note, was the provision of two 20’ units for a popular BBC wildlife series to provide facilities for production crew.

The team is excited for the year ahead and looking forward to strengthening relationships with all our customers throughout the South West in 2024.

Top Safety Accreditation for Portable Offices...

Portable Offices has been awarded accreditation from Alcumus SafeContractor for achieving excellence in health and safety in the workplace.

Alcumus SafeContractor is a leading accreditation scheme which recognises extremely rigorous standards in health and safety management amongst contractors. It is used by thousands of organisations in the UK including SMEs and FTSE 100 companies.

The company’s application for SafeContractor accreditation was driven by the need for a uniform standard across the business. Gemma Archibald, Divisional CEO of Alcumus SafeContractor said: “Major organisations simply cannot afford to run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies in place.”

“More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that Portable Offices has done. The firm’s high standard has set an example which hopefully will be followed by other companies within the sector. RESTORING HOPE AFTER DISASTER

A Swift School Solution

Restoring Hope: Delivering a Swift Solution for SS Simon & Jude CE Primary School...

Portable Offices has provided a rapid response with an extensive education solution with a range of temporary education accommodation to enable SS Simon & Jude CE Primary School in Great Lever, Bolton to reopen to pupils on 12th December.

The school is reopening following a period of intensive adaptation involving the establishment of a range of temporary classrooms and related buildings due to the loss of almost all their facilities during a devastating fire in August.

Once the fire was extinguished, the immediate priority of the school was to have face-to-face teaching established as quickly as possible and to keep the 554 pupils within their local community.

As a result, alternative buildings to accommodate pupils, including the early years education unit, was an urgent requirement. Portable buildings provider, Portable Offices, stepped in promptly with a plan – organising a range of portable primary classrooms, early years spaces, toilets and washrooms, offices, and canteen facilities to be sited on the adjacent playing field.

Portable Offices has extensive experience in disaster recovery and Manager, Ian Smith exemplified this commitment by empathetically working with the school to learn of their requirements and initiate a thorough disaster recovery plan.

This involved identifying appropriate buildings within the company’s depots’ stock and immediately prepping buildings from four of their depots around the country which were delivered within five weeks from the time of ordering.

A total of 73 buildings were delivered to site which included 69 modular sections.

Ian Smith, said: “We are accustomed to responding quickly to disaster recovery contracts and were able to pull out all of the stops to get a range of buildings to site in just five weeks.

“Groundworks on the playing field were prepared in record time and we had seven and half days of solid cranage rolling out.

“At one point, we had a team of around 30 people on site literally all working closely as a team to bring the project to fruition.”

“The greatest challenge was one of logistics – we had to create a new access road to the site up a steady incline and worked closely with ground workers and the end user, solving problems as they occurred.”

The buildings will be ready for handover to school staff on 11 December.

The School Principal said: “The portables are an excellent temporary alternative provision to our original building, and we are looking forward to welcoming the pupils back.”

Trust CEO, Jill Albertina said: “Huge thanks to the whole team working on our education village. Everyone has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to supporting the educational journey of our children.

“We are excited about the opening of our village, it is wonderful to bring pupils, staff, and families back together, within such a short space of time, following the devastating fire. Our community coming together really has made the impossible possible— truly living the trust value of ‘not setting a limit on what is possible for ourselves, for one another and for our community.”

The playing field will be returned to its existing use once the school is rebuilt, which will take approximately three years.

Portable Offices remains dedicated to providing progress updates and maintaining transparent communication throughout the rebuilding phase.

In the face of adversity, everyone has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to supporting the educational journey of the children at SS Simon & Jude CE Primary School.

Leeds Expands…

Leeds depot has recently expanded its team together with its capacity which has resulted in steady, incremental growth.

Following the recent RAAC (Reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete) crisis, Portable Offices has stepped up with a raft of temporary classroom solutions designed to assist schools in a smooth interim transition.

Leeds depot provided a two bay temporary classroom and office for Abbey Lane School in Sheffield while they addressed their RAAC issue.

Since then, the office has provided a number of quotations for other schools affected and is waiting to see what results.

Manager, Becky Scholefield commented: “We have continued to assist clients in a variety of sectors, from our usual ‘bread & butter’ clients like housebuilders looking for marketing suites to motor traders looking for temporary office and reception areas whilst their buildings are being refurbished.”

JCT Seat in Sheffield is one example, where temporary offices were required to accommodate staff during their refurbishment. A new Enterprise operation in Bradford together with John Roe Toyota in Hull and Northgate Vehicle Hire were able to benefit from temporary accommodation during their period of expansion.

The depot also provided a state-of-the-art changing room for Bruntsfield Golf Club in Scotland, a high specification shower room for Parraloy, a potato laboratory for Seabrook crisps and a 40’ unit for a food bank in Northumberland.

Becky has also recruited two new team members:

At the office, there is a new Customer Account Manager Sales, Darren Bean, who recently joined.

Darren will respond to new and existing customers providing a professional first port of call and arranging quotations, logistics and operations.

In the yard, Luke Lupton has joined as a multi-skilled yard operative. Increasing the team’s skilled capacity.

Luton Top of the Form as New Depot Operations Manager joins the Team…

Luton depot is experiencing a particularly busy period with schools seeking temporary classroom accommodation during the recent RAAC (Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) crisis.

One noteworthy contract, is an eight bay modular for Surrey Street primary school which has been adversely affected by the RAAC issue. Portable Offices has stepped in with a raft of temporary accommodation to enable a smooth interim transition.

Enquiries from other schools are flooding in and Luton depot is responding to the challenge with a prompt response.

This is in addition to the depot’s usual TV and film industry work as they ramp up production of units for a major movie together with a raft of suites for the BBC, including the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Luton office has amassed considerable experience in the film and TV sector over the past decade, providing production suites, welfare facilities, canteen and changing rooms for some popular TV series and box office movies.

In addition, Luton has continued to support the business sector. A recent success story involved the provision of two units for a food market logistics company to enable its expansion into new offices.

Recent Projects

Into this busy arena steps Luton office’s new Depot Operations Manager, Luke Foster-Poole.

Previously Operations Manager of Lanes Group, managing drainage for Thames Water, Luke has embraced his new role and is rapidly climbing the Portable Offices’ learning curve.

He said: “I am really enjoying the new role. We have a great team and everybody is passionate about the business, putting 100 per cent effort into their work.”

Luke is no stranger to the world of film and television.

In his youth, he starred in a Nickleodeon infill promotion about water and was filmed jumping into puddles.

He also saved a neighbour’s kitten from a soggy end, when he spotted him hiding in the washing machine.

“Luckily, he wasn’t on the spin cycle. We soon rescued him and dried him off and he was fine,” Luke explained.

This act of heroism, resulted in front page coverage in his local newspaper.

Now his interests revolve around refurbishing his classic Mini.
